Radiosurgery after craniotomy.

چکیده
Adjuvant irradiation of the resection cavity after craniotomy is a newer application of stereotactic radiosurgery. This technique has been proposed to avoid long-term neurotoxicity of whole-brain radiation therapy, and seems to afford comparable local control rates in the multiple published retrospective series so far. Currently, many questions remain to be answered to define the optimal patients who are candidate for tumor bed radiosurgery. The optimal timing after craniotomy, the volume of tissue to include in the treatment isodose and the radiation dose required to provide long-term local control are parameters which remain controversial at the moment.

Scalp Seeding Post Craniotomy and Radiosurgery for Solitary Brain Metastasis: A Case Report and Systematic Review
BACKGROUND Radiosurgery is being increasingly used post craniotomy for brain metastasis, instead of whole-brain radiation. We report a case of scalp metastasis following craniotomy and radiosurgery, along with a systematic review of the literature. METHODS Our patient was a 70-year-old male who presented with a scalp metastasis, two years after craniotomy and radiosurgery, for a sol...
متن کاملHistopathological observations on vestibular schwannomas after Gamma Knife radiosurgery: the Marseille experience.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Radiosurgery has become a successful treatment modality in the management of vestibular schwannomas (VS) during the past four decades. Although the number of treated cases has been increasing continuously we know relatively little about the pathological effect of high dose irradiation on VS following radiosurgery. The purpose of this study was to analyze histopathological...
متن کاملUnusual Presentations of Intracranial Solitary Fibrous Tumor with Malignant Transformation
Background: Intracranial solitary fibrous tumor was rare. However, most intracranial solitary fibrous tumors are benign, cerebral solitary fibrous tumor with malignant transformation was even more unusual. Case present: Herein, we presented a 55 year-old-male who was diagnosed intracranial solitary fibrous tumor five years ago. Partial tumor excision was performed via the pterional craniotomy. ...
متن کاملFunctional magnetic resonance imaging and optical imaging for dominant-hemisphere perisylvian arteriovenous malformations.
OBJECTIVE In this study, we developed an a priori system to stratify surgical intervention of perisylvian arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) in 20 patients. We stratified the patients into three categories based on preoperative functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) language activation pattern and relative location of the AVM. METHODS In Group I (minimal risk), the AVM was at least one ...
متن کاملLong-Term Results of Gamma Knife Radiosurgery for Intracranial Meningioma
BACKGROUND The predominant treatment modality for meningioma is surgical resection. However, gamma knife radiosurgery is also an important treatment modality for meningioma that is small or cannot be completely removed because of its location. In this study, we evaluated the effectiveness and long-term results of radiosurgical treatment for meningioma in our institution. METHODS We studied 62...
